4. The peacock: Our National Bird

Have you ever heard birds chirping and twittering? Can you name some birds whose chirping and twittering you may have liked? Which bird do you like most and why?

Teacher: Good morning, Students! शुभप्रभात बच्चों !

Students: [Standing] Good morning, Sir! ( खड़े होते हुए) शुभप्रभात सर !

Teacher: (shows them a picture of peacock and asks): Can you tell the name of the bird? ( एक मोर कि तस्वीर  उनको दिखाते है और कहते है ) क्या आपलोग इस पक्षी का नाम बता सकते हो ?

Students: Yes, Sir. It's a peacock. हाँ , सर. यह एक मोर है .

Teacher: Well done! Today we are going to talk about our National Bird the peacock. शाबाश ! आज हम लोग हमारे राष्ट्रिय पक्षी मोर के बारे में बात करने जा रहें है . There are various species of peacocks. मोरों कि कई प्रजातियाँ हैं , You know, in India only the blue peacock is found.  आप जानते है भारत में केवल नीला मोर ही पाया जाता है, Has anyone of you seen it? क्या आप में से किसी ने इसे देखा है ?

Ruby : Yes Sir, I've, I've seen it in the Patna Zoo. हाँ सर, मैंने इसे पटना के चिड़िया घर में देखा है, It's very beautiful. यह बहुत सुंदर होता है .

Teacher: Yes, you're absolutely right. हाँ, तुम बिल्कुल सही कह रहे हो। It looks very attractive. यह बहुत आकर्षक लगता है। Its feathers are multi-colored and its large oval body is bright and colourful. इसके पंख बहुरंगी होते हैं और इसका बड़ा अंडाकार शरीर चमकीला और रंगीन होता है। It has a small head  and slender neck. इसका छोटा सिर और पतली गर्दन होती है। A male peacock is more colourful than the female one - peahen. नर मोर, मादा की तुलना में अधिक रंगीन होता है । Its plumes are matchless in beauty and are used for decoration.  इसके पंख सुंदरता में बेजोड़ हैं और सजावट के लिए उपयोग किए जाते हैं।

Abhishek: Sir, I've heard that a peacock eats up even a snake.

अभिषेक : सर, मैंने सुना है कि मोर सांप को भी खा जाता है।

Teacher: Yes, you're right. It eats not only snakes but also plants, seeds, fruits, insects. It devours frogs and lizards as well.

शिक्षक: हाँ, तुम सही हो। यह न केवल सांप बल्कि पौधे, बीज, फल, कीड़े भी खाता है। यह मेंढक और छिपकलियों को भी खा जाता है।

(सिर हिलाते हुए) अच्छा! विवाह समारोहों में, दो व्यक्ति मोर और मोरनी की वेश  में नृत्य करते हैं। But in reality, the peacock dances mostly in the rainy season. लेकिन असल में मोर ज्यादातर बारिश के मौसम में ही नाचते हैं। When the sky is overcast with clouds, the peacock dances with delight, spreading its colourful feathers. जब आकाश बादलों से घिर जाता है, तो मोर अपने रंगीन पंखों को फैलाकर खुशी से नाचता है। Has anyone seen a peacock without feathers? क्या किसी ने बिना पंख वाले मोर को देखा है?

Students: No, Sir. नहीं, सर।

Students: Thank you, Sir! धन्यवाद, सर!

(The bell rings) (घंटी बजती है)

Teacher: That's right!

 शिक्षक: यह सही है!

 Summary:

The peacock is our national bird. They are various species of peacock found in the world but only blue peacock found in India found in India it looks very beautiful it had a large oval body and small head with a cylinder neck.

Peacock eats plants, seeds, fruits, insects, snakes and also swallow frogs and lizards.

In the rainy season when the sky is over casted with clouds the peacock dances with great delight.

 It spreads its colourful feathers, which looks very lovely scene of the world.

b) How does a peacock differ from a peahen in appearance?

Ans: In appearance a peacock is different from peahen. A peacock is more colourful and attractive than peahen.

Ans: I like birds because they are integral part of the nature. Birds eat plants and insects as well thus birds maintain balance in the nature. Birds maintain food chain of nature. Apart from it I find birds very attractive and amazing because of their flying capability.

 

d) Why do you think that the peacock is the national bird of India?

Ans: The peacock is national bird of India because of its multi-colours and beautiful plumes just like India, India is country of multi-culture, multi-caste, multi-religion, multi-class and still everyone is living with each other peacefully is one of the beauties of India. Thus, the beautiful peacock represents the beauty of India hence this bird is national bird of India.
