13. Running Through the Rain ( वर्षा में सैर)

 

Some are fond of Sunshine. 

कुछ लोग सूरज की चमक पसंद करते हैं।

Well   - so I am. 

ठीक है - मैं भी पसन्द करता हूं।

But like the rain too,

 लेकिन मुझे वर्षा भी, पसन्द है,

Falling from the sky. 

आसमान से गिरता हुआ।

For when merry April 

क्योंकि जब सुखद अप्रैल का महीना होता है,

Trips over hill and plain,

 तब पहाड़ एवं मैदान में बरसना,

Isn't it delightful. 

क्या यह सुखद या आनंददायक नहीं होता है?

Running Through the Rain?

Word Meaning

Sunshine: सूर्य की चमक, fond of: शौकिन, merry: सुखद, trips over: टपकता है, plain: मैदान या समतल भूमि, delightful: आनंददायक.

Bright eyed little blossoms,

चमकीली आंखों जैसी छोटी कलियाँ

Growing by the way. 

रास्ते के किनारे पर उगी हुई हैं।

Look up as we pass them 

निहारती हैं ज्योहि हम उनके पास से गुजरते हैं।

 Laughingly to say; 

हंसते हुए कहने के लिए;

So, the showe'r has caught you

ऐसा है कि बारिश कि बौछार ने तुम्हें पकड़ लिया है 

 And escape is vain

और बच कर भागना बेकार है/ मुश्किल है 

 Isn't it delightful, 

Running through the rain?

तो क्या यह आनन्दपूर्ण नहीं है, इस पानी में दौड़ना ?

Bright eyed: चमकीली आंखों वाली, little: छोटी, Growing : उगना, look up: निहारना ,blossoms: कालियां, Show'r/ Shower: बौछार, Escape: बच कर भागना, Vain: बेकार, Catch: पकड़ना।

'Pitter patter', softly 

आहिस्ते टिपटिप-टपटप करते 

Drips the drops around 

बूँदों का चारों ओर टपकना 

While a peeping sunbeam 

जब लुकाछिपी करती है सूर्य कि किरणे 

Gilds the scented ground,

जमीन पर सोने की सुगन्धित परत  चढ़ा देती है,

Shelter nowhere near us! 

हमारे आस पास बचने का कोई स्थान भी न हो कहीं!

Yet we don't complain 

फिर भी हमें शिकायत नहीं रहती है।

For it's so delightful 

क्योंकि यह बहुत आनन्दपूर्ण होता है।

Running through the rain!

1.) Why has the poet used the word ‘merry’ for the month of April in the poem? Does this month have any relevance in your state regarding rain?

Answer: The poet John Lea talking about the season in England. In England the rain begins after April hence the poet says ‘merry’ to month of April. In India there is summer in month of April.

 

2.) Why does the poet regard escaping from rain as vain?

Answer: Poet says that escaping from the rain is like escaping from the vain which means escaping is meaningless cause the shower will catch you hence the poet regard escaping from rain as vain.

 

3.) During rain the poet doesn’t get any shelter. Still, he doesn’t complain. Why?

Answer: The poet is enjoying the rain and peeping sunbeam and the in such situation though he doesn’t find any shelter but still he doesn’t complain because it is delightful for him to running through the rain.
