आज इस Article के माध्यम से RULES OF NOUN का SERIES-II को पढ़ेंगे।

Rules of Noun Series - II

आशा करता हूं। इस Article को पढ़ने के बाद आपके सारे Doubt clear होने वाले हैं। तो आर्टिकल को पूरा पढ़े। 

 2. कुछ ऐसे Nouns जिनके अंत में 's' लगा होता है [ अर्थात् स्वरूप में Plural हैं] Singular होते हैं-

Name of some subjects- Civics, Economics, Physics, Mechanics, Mathematics Ethics, Linguistics, Phonetics, Politics, Statistics

Name of some disease- Measles, Mumps, Rickets, Diabetes, Rabies, shingles,

Name of some games- Gymnastics, Athletics, Billiards, Darts, Droughts

Name of some countries- The United States, Wales, Athens

Name of some things- News , Innings , summons

Note:- ये Nouns Uncountable है। अतः इनके पहले न तो 'a/an' का प्रयोग होता है और न ही इनके साथ 's/es' जोड़कर इनका Plural बनाया जाता है;

Example:

1.     Incorrect- Physics are a difficult subject.
Correct – Physics is a difficult subject.

2.     Incorrect- The news of his death are not true.
Correct – The news of his death is not true.

3.     Incorrect -Mumps are an infectious disease.
Correct- Mumps is an infectious disease.

4.     Incorrect -Measles have broken out in the city.
Correct- Measles has broken out in the city.

5.     Incorrect -Gymnastics are not given enough importance in India.
Correct- Gymnastics is not given enough importance in India.

6.     Incorrect -Billiards are not popular in our country.
Correct- Billiards is not popular in our country.

1.   Gymnastics are good for health.

2.   These news have disturbed the peace of my mind.

3.   Measles are  dangerous disease.

4.   Mathematics are not easy subject.

7.   Politics play a vital role in village life.

8.   Billiards are played by women as well as men.

9.   Let’s have a game of draughts.

10.         Diabetes are not as serious as cancer.

11.         Measles are an infectious disease.

 

NOTE : यहाँ तक कि Nesfield तथा Wren & Martin ने भी measles, mumps आदि को Plural माना है, किंतु आधुनिक प्रयोग में ये Singular Uncountable Nouns हैं और इनके साथ हमेशा Singular Verb का प्रयोग होता है 'billiards' को Wren & Martin ने भी Plural माना है, किंतु,

'Billiards is played by women as well as by 'men.
