Rules of Noun Series - I
1.
कुछ Nouns जो हमेशा Singular होते हैं।
(a)
luggage सामान, baggage सामान, breakage टूट-फूट,, furniture फर्नीचर, drapery चिलमन, imagery कल्पना, scenery दृश्य, poetry कविता, pottery मिट्टी के बर्तन, machinery मशीनरी, work (काम), paper (कागज), wood (लकड़ी), iron (लोहा), stone (पत्थर), glass (शीशा), dust धूल, rubbish (कचरा), dirt गंदगी, electricity (बिजली),
traffic यातायात, information (सूचना),
advice (सलाह), chalk (चाक),
food (भोजन),
bread रोटी, grass ( घास)।
ये Nouns Uncountable है।
अतः इनके पहले न तो 'a/an' का
प्रयोग होता है और न ही इनके साथ 's/es' जोड़कर
इनका Plural बनाया जाता है; जैसे-
(i)
What is poetry? न कि a poetry]
(ii)
The scenery of Kashmir is beautiful. [न कि The sceneries]
(iii) The wall is made of stone. [न कि a stone]
NOTE
: ऐसे
nouns
के
पहले आवश्यकतानुसार a piece of / pieces of/a bit of/bits of/a loaf of/loaves
of/a heap of / heaps of आदि का आवश्यकतानुसार प्रयोग कर Singular या Plural Verb प्रयोग में लाया जाता है; जैसे
(i)
A loaf of bread [a bread two breads]
(ii)
Two loaves of bread.
Examples:
1. Incorrect- The sceneries of Kashmir are beautiful.
Correct- The scenery of Kashmir is beautiful.
2. Incorrect - Shelley's poetries are very charming.
Correct
- Shelley's poetry is very charming.
3. Incorrect - The old furnitures were disposed of.
Correct-
The old furniture was disposed of.
4. Incorrect - His hairs have turned grey.
Correct
- His hair has turned grey.
5. Incorrect -He gave
me many advices.
Correct- He gave me many pieces of advice.
Or
He gave me a lot of advice.
6. Incorrect - He bought new machineries.
Correct - He
bought new machinery.
7. Incorrect - His informations are wrong.
Correct -
His information is wrong.
