ABOUT THE STORY

The present myth from Greek mythology introduces two people वर्तमान पौराणिक कथा मिस्र के दो पौराणिक व्यक्तियों से परिचित कराता है, Echo and narcissus इको और नारसिसस Their names have a meaning in the myth उनके नामों का अर्थ इस पौराणिक कथा में है that has carried over to our present day language. जो वर्तमान भाषा में भी आ गया है The given piece has been rendered in English दिया गया अंश अंग्रेजी में अनुवादित किया गया है by MOIRA KERR AND JOHAN BENETT. मोइरा केर और जॉन बेनेट के द्वारा।

1. Not many men, or even gods, were as handsome as young Narcissus मनुष्य क्या देवता भी युवा नार्सिसस की तरह सुंदर नहीं था. So fair was he that वह इतना सुंदर था कि almost everyone who saw him यद्यपि जो भी उसे देखता था fell in love with him that moment. उसी  पल उसके प्यार में पड़ जाता था।

2.One day, एक दिन as Narcissus roamed the forests with his hunting companions, नार्सिसस अपने शिकारी साथियों के साथ जंगल में घूम रहा था he was spied by the watchful nymph Echo वह एक सुंदर युवती इको द्वारा सावधानीपूर्वक जासूसी किया जा रहा था .She had once been a great chatterer, वह एक समय बहुत बकबक करती थी ready to talk to any passer-by an any subject at any time, वह किसी से भी किसी भी विषय पर और कभी भी वार्तालाप करने के लिए तैयार कर लेती थी and on several occasions she had detained goddess Hera with hours of casual talks और अनेक अवसरों पर उसने देवी हीरा को घंटों तक फालतू की बातों में अटका कर रख लेती थी ,just as Hera was on the point of stumbling upon Zeus with one of his illicit loves. जैसा कि हीरा Zeus के साथ अवैध प्रेम पर अवरोध के बिंदु पर थी।

Eventually Hera grew so annoyed that अंततः हीरा इतनी क्रोधित हो गई कि she put a curse on Echo उसने इको को श्राप दे दिया, and from that time on the unfortunate nymph उस समय से दुर्भाग्य की मारी सुंदर युवती  by could say nothing कुछ भी ना कह / बोल सकी but the last few words that she heard. लेकिन  अंतिम के कुछ शब्दों के सिवाय, जिससे वह सुनी थी

3.  Trembling, Echo followed Narcissus through the trees.कांपती हुई, इको ने पेड़ों की आड़ से  नरसीसस का पीछा किया। She longed to go closer to him वह उसके समीप जाने की इच्छा रखती थी to get up on the beauty of his face उसके चेहरे के सुन्दरता को निहारने के लिए but she feared that लेकिन वह डरती थी कि he would laugh at her silly a speech. वह उसके मूर्खता पूर्वक आवाज पर हंसेगा  Before long Narcissus wandered away from his companions, लंबे समय के बाद नार्सिसस अपने साथियों से बिछड़ गया and when he realised he was lost और जब उसने महसूस किया कि वह खो गया है, he called in panic  वह डर से चिल्लाया " is there any body here?" क्या कोई यहां पर हैं?

4. " Here!," Called Echo." यहां " ,इको ने आवाज दी।

5. Mystified by this reply, Narcissus shouted. इस जवाब से विस्मित (भ्रमित) नार्सिसस चिल्लाया"Come!"आओ ।

6. "Come!" shouted Echo. आओ", इको चिल्लाई।

7. Narcissus was convinced that (Narcissus समझा कि) someone was playing trick on him. (कोई उसका मजाक उड़ा रहा है).

8. " Why are you avoiding me? he called. आप मुझे क्यों अनदेखा कर रहे हैं? उसने कहा। The only answer he heard was his own question repeated from the woods. मात्र जवाब जो उसने सुना , उसका अपना ही प्रश्न जंगल से दुहराया गया।

9. "Come here, and let us meet!" यहां आओ और हम मिलते हैं Pleaded Narcissus, Narcissus ने अनुरोध किया.

10. "Let us meet ! " Echo answered, delighted. इको ने प्रसन्नता पूर्वक जवाब दिया,"चलो मिलते हैं।"

11. She overcame for shyness उसने लाज/शर्म पर विजय प्राप्त कि and crept from her hiding place छुपने वाले स्थान से बाहर निकल कर आई, to approach Narcissus, Narcissus से मिलने के लिए but he satisfied now लेकिन वह अब संतुष्ट था that he had solve the mystery of the voice कि उसने आवाज के रहस्य को सुलझा लिया, roughly push her away and ran. बुरी तरह से उसे धक्का दिया और  दौड़ा।

12. "I would die before I would have you near me! मैं तुम्हारे पास जाने से पहले ही मर जाऊंगा" he shouted mockingly over his shoulder. वह चिढ़ाते हुए  उसके कंधे के पास  से चिल्लाया।

13. Helpless, Echo had to call after him," I would have you near me!"असहाय, इको को कहना पड़ा, "मैं तुम्हें आपके  पास रहूंगी!"

14. The nymph was so embarrassed and ashamed that वह युवती इतना घबरा और शर्मा गई कि  she hid herself in the dark cave, उसने अपने आप को अंधेरी गुफा में छुपा ली  and never came into the air and sunlight again. और वापस दुबारा वायु और धुप में नहीं आई , Her youth and beauty withered away उसकी जवानी और सुन्दरता मुरझा गयी and her body became so shrunken and tiny that और उसका शरीर इतना सुख गया और छोटा हो गया कि  eventually she vanished altogether. अंततः वह साथ ही गायब हो गयी ,  All that was left was the pathetic voice that still roams the world, anxious to talk इन सबके बाद जो बचा वह उसकी कारुणिक आवाज थी जो आज भी संसार में भ्रमण करती है , yet able only to repeat what other say. अभी भी केवल दूसरो क्या कहते है  को ही दुहरा पाने में सक्षम है .

15. Poor Echo was not the only one to be treated brutally by Narcissus. बेचारी इको अकेली नहीं थी जो नारसिसस के घृणित व्यवहार की शिकार थी . He had played with many hearts, उसने बहुत से दिलों के साथ खेला था and at last one of those he had scorned prayed to the gods  अंत में  उसके द्वारा अपमनितों में से एक ईश्वर से प्रार्थना कि that Narcissus would someday find himself scorned (insulted) by one he loved. एक दिन नारसिसस अपनी प्रेम के द्वारा स्वयं को अपमानित पायेगा , The prayer was heard, and granted.प्रार्थना सुनी गयी और मंजूर कर ली गयी .

16 . Tired and thirsty from his hunting शिकार से थका और प्यासा , Narcissus threw himself down beside a still clear pool to drink. पास के बिल्कुल स्वच्छ तालाब में नारसिसस पानी पीने के लिए  झुका . As he leaned over the shining surface, जैसे ही वह चमकदार सतह पर झुका  he saw the reflection of the most beautiful face उसने अत्यधिक सुंदर चेहरे का प्रतिविम्ब देखा  he had ever seen उसने कभी देखा था . His heart trembled at the sight, उसका दिल इस दृश्य पर हिल गया  and he could not tear himself away from it – his own image. और वह अपनी खुद की प्रतिबिम्ब से नजर नही हटा सका .

17.   For a long time Narcissus remained there beside the pool, never raising his eyes from the surface, लम्बे समय तक नारसिसस पोखर के बगल में ठहरा रहा अपनी आँखों को सतह से कभी हटता नहीं था  and from time to time murmuring words of love. और समय समय पर प्यार के मन्द मंद शब्द बोलता था  At last his body withered away and became the stem of a flower, अंत में उसका शरीर सुख गया और फूल का तना बन गया  and his head the lovely gold and white blossom और उसका सर प्यारा सुनहला और उजला फूल बन गया which still looks into quiet pools, and is called Narcissus. जो अभी भी शांत तालाब  में दिखता है और जिसे नारसिसस कहते हैं .
