Not many men, or even gods, were as handsome as young Narcissus.
मनुष्य क्या देवता भी युवा नार्सिसस जितने सुंदर नहीं थे। So fair was he that almost
everyone who saw him fell in love with him at that moment.

One day, as Narcissus roamed the forests with his hunting companions, एक दिन नार्सिसस अपने शिकारी साथियों के साथ जंगल में घूम रहा था, he was spied upon by the watchful nymph Echo. तभी उस पर सुंदर युवती इको ने सावधानीपूर्वक नज़र रखी। She had once been a great
chatterer, एक समय,वह बहुत बकबक करती थी always ready to talk to any passer‑by on any
subject at any time. और किसी भी राहगीर से किसी भी विषय पर कभी भी बातचीत करने के लिए तैयार रहती थी। On several occasions she had detained goddess Hera
with hours of casual talk, just as Hera was about to discover Zeus with one of
his illicit loves. कई बार उसने देवी हीरा को घंटों तक फालतू की बातों में उलझा दिया, ठीक उस समय जब हीरा ज़्यूस के अवैध प्रेम का पता लगाने वाली होती। Eventually Hera grew so
annoyed that she put a curse on Echo. अंततः हीरा इतनी क्रोधित हो गई कि उसने इको को श्राप दे दिया। From that time on, the
unfortunate nymph could say nothing except the last few words she heard.

shoulder. वह चिढ़ाते हुए उसके कंधे के पास से चिल्लाया।

Helpless, Echo had to call after him," I would have you near me!"

The nymph was so embarrassed and ashamed that वह अप्सरा इतना घबरा और शर्मा

नहीं आई , Her youth and beauty withered

Poor Echo was not the only one to be treated brutally by
Narcissus. बेचारी इको अकेली नहीं थी जो नारसिसस के घृणित व्यवहार की शिकार थी. He had played with many hearts, उसने बहुत से दिलों के साथ खेला
था and at last one of those
he had scorned prayed to the gods अंत में उसके द्वारा अपमनितों में से एक ईश्वर से

Tired and thirsty from his hunting शिकार से थका और प्यासा, Narcissus threw himself down
beside a still clear pool to drink. पास के बिल्कुल स्वच्छ तालाब में नारसिसस पानी पीने
के लिए झुका. As he leaned over the shining surface, जैसे ही वह चमकदार सतह पर झुका he saw the reflection of the most beautiful
face उसने अत्यधिक सुंदर चेहरे
का प्रतिविम्ब देखा he had ever seen उसने कभी देखा था. His heart trembled at the sight, उसका दिल इस दृश्य पर हिल गया and he could not tear
himself away from it – his own image. और वह अपनी खुद की प्रतिबिम्ब से नजर नही हटा सका.

For a long time Narcissus remained there beside the
pool, never raising his eyes from the surface, लम्बे समय तक नारसिसस पोखर के बगल में ठहरा रहा अपनी आँखों
को सतह से कभी हटता नहीं था and from time to time murmuring
words of love. और समय
समय पर प्यार के मन्द मंद शब्द बोलता था At last his
body withered away and became the stem of a flower, अंत में उसका शरीर सुख गया और फूल का तना बन गया and his head the lovely
gold and white blossom और उसका सर प्यारा सुनहला और उजला फूल बन गया which still looks into
quiet pools and is called Narcissus. जो अभी भी शांत तालाब में दिखता है और जिसे नारसिसस कहते हैं .
