If I should die, think only this of me:

      That there’s some corner of a foreign field

That is for ever England. There shall be

      In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;

A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,

      Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam;

A body of England’s, breathing English air,

      Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

Explanation:

" The Soldier" is the best sonnet of Rupert Brooke. Here he, who himself is a soldier.

He has gone abroad to fight for his country says in octave that if he dies during war in a foreign country and is buried there.

He should be remembered and it should thought that there is some corner of land that is England for always as his body is buried there.

The speaker showing his love to the land of his country says that it 8s England which gave him the breathe of life, bought up, made conscious, gave him flower to love 💕 ,ways to walk, her good tradition and culture to learn, native air to breathe, rivers to bathe and own sunshine to warm.

And think, this heart, all evil shed away,

      A pulse in the eternal mind, no less

            Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;

Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;

      And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,

            In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

Explanation:

In the sestet , the speaker says that if he dies during the war, all the sins committed by him, will be washed away.

As a result his heart will get purified, and  he will become the part of God.( After his death , his soul is United to God)

Further , his immortal soul due to union with God will always cherish, the thoughts  which his mother land has given earlier.

He  will constantly enjoy  the mother lands  sighs, hear it's sound,  and dream and glorious dream like the sunny days England.

He will also enjoy laughter and gentleness which he physically enjoyed during life time along with friends.

Finally, the speaker expecting the peace and happiness in his country  and world,

He says that thus his soul will  live in the sky of England for  good.
