Whether एक Conjunction है जिसका हिंदी मतलब या, या न, चाहे या, चाहे न इत्यादि होता है जो एक condition को दर्शाता है।

1. आप इसे चाहें या न चाहें, आपको इसे करना ही पड़ेगा।

2. वह खाए चाहे न खाए, मैं तो अवश्य ही खाऊंगा। 

Rule I. इन वाक्यों को ध्यान से पढ़ेंयहां पहले वाक्य में या न और दूसरे में चाहे न का प्रयोग हुआ है। इन वाक्यों में या न /चाहे न से एक शर्त (condition) का भाव झलकता है और इसलिए इनका अनुवाद whether….or not से होता है; जैसे

1. Whether you like it or not, you will have to do it.

2. Whether he eats or not, I will certainly.

Rule II. अब, देखें इन वाक्यों को

1. हम चाय पीएंगे या Coffee, अपने खेत में गेहूँ उपजाएंगे या धान, हमें किसी के हुक्म पर हर्गिज नहीं चलना

Whether we take tea or coffee, whether we grow wheat or paddy, we should not act according to the orders of anybody. 

2. हम चावल खाएँ या रोटी, मलयालम बोलें या मैंथिली, कोट-पतलून पहनें या धोती-कुर्ता, हम सब-के-सब भारतीय हैं।

Whether we eat rice or bread, whether we speak Malayalam or Maithili, whether we wear suit or dhoti-kurta, we are all Indians. 

ध्यान दें कि ऊपर के दोनों वाक्यों में “या” का प्रयोग हुआ है, “या न” का नहीं। ऐसे वाक्यों में “या” से एक शर्त (condition) का भाव झलकता है। ऐसे या वाले वाक्य का अनुवाद whether….or के द्वारा होता है, whether. .or not के द्वारा नहीं। 

Note-आप देखेंगे कि कुछ वाक्यों में कभी-कभी “या” के बदले “चाहे या” का प्रयोग है। याद रखें कि “चाहे या” का भी अनुवाद whether… .or के द्वारा इस प्रकार होता है

1. चाहे हम बिहारी हों या मद्रासी, हमारी मातृभूमि यही भारत है।
Whether we are Biharis or Medrasis, our motherland is this very India.

2. चाहे आप जॉब करो या business, कुछ न कुछ तो करना ही पड़ेगा।
Whether you do a job or business, you will have to do something or the other.

चलिए अब कुछ और Example से इसको डिटेल में समझते है

पहले “या” का प्रयोग करेंगे

वो झूठ बोले या सच, क्या फर्क पड़ता है।
Whether he speaks a lie or true, it doesn’t make any difference.

आप क्रिकेट खेले या हॉकी, आपकी मर्जी है।
Whether you play cricket or hockey, it’s your choice.

तुम अब दिल्ली जाओ या गोआ, मुझे तो यही रहना है।
Whether you go to Delhi or Goa, I have to live here.

आप मारो या जिओ, मुझे कोई फर्क नही पड़ता।
Whether you live or die, I don’t care.

वो इसे बेचे या रखे, उसकी property है।
Whether he sells it or keeps it, it’s his property.

“या न” का प्रयोग

आप अंग्रेजी सीखें या न सीखें, मैं तो सिखाता ही रहूंगा।
Whether you learn English or not, I will continue to teach.

वो आपकी हो या न हो, मेरी जरूर हो जाएगी।
Whether she is yours or not, she will be mine for sure.

हम जीतें या न जीतें, कुछ सीख के जरूर जाएंगे।
Whether we win or not, we will surely get to learn something.

वो आपकी बात माने या न माने, मुझे तो मानना ही पड़ेगा।
Whether he listens to you or not, I will have to listen to you.

चाहे – या का प्रयोग

चाहे आप ये वाला लो या वो वाला, दोनों का एक ही Rate है।
Whether you buy this one or that one, both have the same price.

चाहे आप रोकर sign करो या हँसकर, करना तो पड़ेगा आपको।
Whether you sign happily or sadly, you will have to do.

चाहे वो music सुने या फ़िल्म देखे, ये उसकी मर्जी है।
Whether she listens to music or watches TV, it’s her choice.

चाहे आप उससे मिले या मुझसे, एक ही बात है।
Whether you meet him or me, it’s all same.

Whether or का प्रयोग हमारे रोज बोले जाने वाली अंग्रेजी में बहुत ज्यादा होता है। तो हो सके तो आप अपने sentences बनाये, वो आपके बहुत काम आएंगे।
