Use of 'Present Participle'

The Participle is a verb as well as an Adjective. A Participle works as an Adjective to qualify Nouns or Pronouns.

The main difference between a Gerund and a Participle is that a Gerund works as a Noun and a verb while a Participle works as an Adjective to qualify Noun or Pronoun.

for example

A barking dogs seldom bite.

There are three Kinds of Participles:-

        1. Present Participle'  ,

        2.'Past Participle' तथा 

        3. Perfect Participle 

इनका प्रयोग Verbs के रूप में होता है और Adjectives के रूप में भी ।
 यहाँ हम Participles के Adjectives के रूप में प्रयोग पर चर्चा कर रहे हैं।

'Present Participle' में Verb में 'ing' लगा होता है और

 इसका अर्थ 'ता / ते / ती/हुआ/ हुए / हु के रूप में निकलता है ।

जैसे:

मैंने उसे रोते हुए देखा ।

I saw him weeping.

वह यहाँ दौड़ते हुए आया ।

He came here running.

मैंने एक दौड़ता हुआ घोड़ा देखा ।

I saw a running horse.

उसने एक उड़ती हुई चिड़िया को मारा ।

 He killed a flying bird.

मैंने एक डूबते हुए बच्चे को बचाया ।

I saved a drowning child.

Present Participle का प्रयोग वैसे कार्यों को प्रदर्शित करने के लिए होता है जो अभी पूर्णता समाप्त नहीं हुआ है। जैसे :-

Present participle is used to denote and on finished action

As: 

I  saw running horse in the circus.

( It show that the action is taking place or is in progress or  unfinished)

Examples:

मैंने उसे रोते हुए देखा। 

I saw him/her weeping.

वह यहां दौड़ते हुए आया।

He came here running.

मैंने उसे पार्क में बैठा हुआ देखा।

I saw him sitting in the park.

मैंने उसे पढ़ते हुए पाया।

I found him reading.

पुलिस ने चोर को भागते हुए देखा।

The police saw the thieves running away.

एक लड़का चलती हुई गाड़ी से कूद गया।

A boy jumped off the running bus.

मैंने उसे कमरे में ताला लगाते देखा।

I saw him locking the room.

EXERCISE 1

Translate into English:

मैंने उसे सड़क पार करते देखा । मैंने उसे तुम्हें गाली देते सुना । उसने तुम्हें चोरी करते हुए पकड़ा। वे लोग दौड़ते हुए आए । मैंने एक रोते हुए बच्चा को देखा । राम ने एक दौड़ते हुए शेर को देखा । मैंने एक उड़ती हुई चिड़िया को देखा । वह चिल्लाते हुए बाहर निकला । सीता यहाँ हँसती हुई आई । सीमा यहाँ से रोती हुई। गई मैंने एक मरते हुए भिखारी को देखा । उसने एक गिरते हुए पेड़ को देखा । मैंने उसे वहाँ लेटा हुआ पाया। उसने एक भौंकते हुए कुत्ते को देखा । पुलिस ने एक भागते हुए चोर को देखा ।

Word meaning

 पार करना : to cross. गाली देना-to abuse. चोरी करना - to steal. पकड़ना-to catch रोना-to weep. शेर -lion. उड़ना - to fly. मरना-to die. भिखारी-beggar. गिरना-to fall पेड़ -tree. लेटना-to lie. भौंकना-to bark. भागना-to run away, to flee.
