1.   About The Author

The poem "What a Bird Thought" is written by an anonymous poet. That means the writer's name is not officially credited or known.

The poem beautifully captures a young bird’s evolving understanding of the world—from the safety of its shell, to the nest, and finally to the vast outdoors. It’s a gentle metaphor for growing up and discovering that the world is much bigger and more complex than we first imagined.

I lived first in a little house,
And lived there very well.
I thought the world was small and round,
And made of pale blue shell.

 Stanza 2

Then I lived in a little nest,
Nor needed any other.
I thought the world was made of straw,
And nestled by my mother.

 Stanza 3

One day, I fluttered from my nest,
to what I could find,
I said the world is made of leaves,
I have been very blind.

Stanza 4

At length I flew beyond the tree,
Quite fit for grown-up labours,
I don’t know how the world is made,
And neither do my neighbours.
