“India through a traveler’s eyes” is an extract from the book ‘My Several Worlds’ written by Pearl S Buck.

"India through a traveller’s Eyes” पर्ल एस बक (Pearl S Buck) के द्वारा लिखित किताब ‘My Several Worlds’ से लिया गया एक उद्धरण है।

Pearl S. Buck was an American by birth but was educated in China.

पर्ल एस बक जन्म से एक अमेरिकी थी लेकिन वे चीन में शिक्षित हुई थी।

India was part of the background of Pearl S Buck’s life.भारत Pearl S Buck के जीवन की पृष्ठभूमि का हिस्सा रहा था।

She had heard a lot of stories of India and Indians from her family doctor and his wife.उन्होंने अपने परिवार के डॉक्टर और उसकी पत्नी से भारत और भारतीयों की बहुत सारी कहानियां सुनीं थी।

So she was very keen to see India.इसलिए वह भारत को देखने के लिए बहुत उत्सुक थी।  She had seen many countries in the world but she was very much influenced by Indians.उसने दुनिया के कई देशों को देखा था लेकिन वह भारतीयों से बहुत प्रभावित थी।

Since Pearl had a deep desire to know India and Indians, she came to India.चूँकि पर्ल के दिल में भारत और भारतीयों को जानने की दिली इच्छा थी इसलिए वह भारत आईं।

She visited many tourist places in India.उन्होंने भारत के कई पर्यटन स्थल देखे। 

Saw the Taj Mahal of Agra in the moonlight night, Fatehpur Sikri and many other places of Delhi too but could not understand India and Indians.चांदनी रात में आगरा के ताजमहल को देखा, फतेहपुर सीकरी और दिल्ली के भी कई जगहों को देखा लेकिन वह भारत और भारतीयों को समझ नहीं पाई।

So she tried to get to know India by meeting the farmers of the villages and the youth of the city.इसलिए उन्होंने गाँवों के किसानों और शहर के युवाओं से मिलकर भारत को जानने की कोशिश की।

She met young intellectuals in cities and poor farmers in villages.वह शहरों में युवा बुद्धिजीवियों और गांवों में गरीब किसानों से मिलीं।

She was able to understand Indians better by talking and listening to the youth of the cities and poor farmers of the country.शहरों के युवाओं और देश के गरीब किसानों के बारे में बात करने और सुनने से वह भारतीयों को ज्यादा बेहतर समझ पायीं।

And then she said that India cannot be understood by looking at its monuments,और फिर उन्होंने कहा कि भारत को इसके स्मारक को देखकर नहीं समझा जा सकता है,  it can only be understood by meeting the youth of the cities and the poor of the village.इसे शहरों के युवाओं और गाँव के गरीबों से मिलकर ही समझा जा सकता है।

At the time when Pearl S Buck came to India, Indians were fighting for their freedom.जिस समय Pearl S Buck भारत आयी थीं उस समय भारतीय अपनी स्वतंत्रता के लिए लड़ रहे थे।

The youth of the city were planning to get their freedom from the slavery of the British rule, while the condition of the villages was very bad.

शहर के युवा ब्रिटिश शासन की गुलामी से अपनी आजादी हासिल करने की योजना बना रहे थे वहीँ गाँवों की स्थिति बहुत ख़राब थी। People were struggling with poverty, disease, and malnutrition.लोग ग़रीबी, बीमारी और कुपोषण से जूझ रहे थे। The average age of the people was only 27 years.लोगों की औसत आयु केवल 27 वर्ष रह गयी थी।

Pearl S Buck also criticizes British rule for this pathetic situation.

इस दयनीय स्थिति के लिए Pearl S Buck ब्रिटिश शासन की आलोचना भी करती हैं।
