Prabhat always wanted to win. प्रभात हमेशा जीतना चाहता था। His parents, teachers, and friends said that he did not know how to accept defeat. उसके माता-पिता, शिक्षक और दोस्त कहते थे कि उसे हार स्वीकार करना नहीं आता। The fact was that he could not bear losing, not even at marbles. सच्चाई यह थी कि वह हार सहन नहीं कर सकता था, यहाँ तक कि कंचों में भी नहीं। He felt so good when he won that he never wanted to give up that feeling. जब वह जीतता था तो उसे इतनी खुशी होती थी कि वह उस एहसास को कभी खोना नहीं चाहता था। On the contrary, losing made him feel terrible. इसके विपरीत, हारने से वह बहुत दुखी हो जाता था। He thought that losing was the worst thing that could happen to anyone. उसका मानना था कि हारना किसी के साथ होने वाली सबसे बुरी बात है।
If Prabhat sensed that he would lose a game,
he would not play it. अगर प्रभात को लगता कि वह कोई खेल हार जाएगा, तो वह उसे खेलता ही नहीं था। He would take
part only when he was sure of winning, even if the game lasted only for a minute.
वह तभी हिस्सा लेता जब उसे जीत का पूरा भरोसा होता, चाहे खेल सिर्फ एक मिनट का ही क्यों न हो। You could not
stop him from playing the kind of games he was really good at, like badminton. आप उसे उन खेलों को खेलने से नहीं रोक सकते थे जिनमें वह बहुत अच्छा था, जैसे कि बैडमिंटन।
A new student
joined Prabhat’s school, and his name was Surya. प्रभात के स्कूल में एक नया छात्र आया, जिसका नाम सूर्या था। Surya was an excellent badminton player. सूर्या एक बेहतरीन

था। Prabhat waited
for the last Friday of the month. प्रभात महीने के आखिरी शुक्रवार का इंतज़ार करता रहा। Last Friday was
significant. आखिरी शुक्रवार बहुत खास होता था। This was when the
coach conducted friendly matches in the games period. इसी दिन खेल अवधि में कोच दोस्ताना मैच करवाते थे। The teams were
decided on Monday and it was no surprise when Prabhat and Surya were chosen to
play a round against each other. सोमवार को टीमें तय की गईं और यह कोई आश्चर्य की बात नहीं थी कि प्रभात और सूर्या को एक-दूसरे के खिलाफ खेलने के लिए चुना गया। Prabhat was given
the responsibility of keeping score for their match. प्रभात को

गई। On one hand,
Prabhat prepared for the match with great seriousness. एक ओर, प्रभात

रहा था। He walked about
the whole time, smiling and cracking jokes about all sorts of things. वह पूरे

रहा। But on Friday, at
the badminton court, Surya was a real phenomenon. लेकिन शुक्रवार को बैडमिंटन कोर्ट पर सूर्या वाकई में एक अद्भुत खिलाड़ी था।
Prabhat managed to win by cheating. प्रभात ने धोखा देकर जीत हासिल की। He made a big
thing of his win, but it did not matter to Surya. उसने अपनी जीत का बहुत दिखावा किया, लेकिन सूर्या को कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ा। “It’s been fun.
We should play again some other time,” said Surya. "मज़ा आया। हमें फिर कभी खेलना चाहिए," सूर्या ने कहा।

On that day,
everyone was discussing their game and how Prabhat had played so well. उस दिन

Prabhat kept a
close watch on Surya for some days. प्रभात ने कुछ दिनों तक सूर्या पर गहरी नज़र रखी। He was great at some things, terrible at
others but what was common was the enjoyment. वह कुछ चीज़ों में बहुत अच्छा था, कुछ में बहुत खराब, लेकिन जो बात समान थी वह थी आनंद। He enjoyed everything equally. वह हर चीज़ का समान रूप से आनंद लेता था।
As Prabhat went
on with his observation, जैसे-जैसे प्रभात ने अपनी निगरानी जारी रखी, he realised that to enjoy a game, उसने महसूस किया कि खेल का आनंद लेने के लिए you did not need
a scoreboard to keep a tally of your scores. स्कोरबोर्ड की ज़रूरत नहीं होती। Neither did you have to worry about winning
nor losing. न तो जीत की चिंता करनी होती है और न ही हार की। You needed to enjoy the game for its own sake.
खेल को उसके अपने आनंद के लिए खेलना चाहिए। What matters is trying to do well, and
enjoying every moment of it. जो मायने रखता है वह है अच्छा प्रयास करना और हर पल का आनंद लेना। Prabhat learnt something through the
observations every day, प्रभात ने हर दिन अपनी निगरानी से कुछ न कुछ सीखा soon realising
the change in himself. और जल्दी ही उसने अपने भीतर बदलाव महसूस किया। He had even begun playing hide and seek, उसने तो छुपन-छुपाई भी खेलना शुरू कर दिया था, and felt sad whenever it was about to
end. और जब खेल खत्म होने वाला होता तो उसे दुख होता। He also started joking while playing
badminton. उसने बैडमिंटन खेलते समय मज़ाक करना भी शुरू कर दिया। Soon, the other students started talking
amongst themselves, जल्दी ही बाकी छात्र आपस में कहने लगे, “Good fun playing with Prabhat "प्रभात के साथ खेलना बड़ा मज़ेदार है, that fellow definitely has a great sporting
spirit.” उसमें तो सचमुच खेल भावना है।"
