Need का प्रयोग कहाँ कहाँ होता है?

Introduction

The word need can function both as a main verb and as a modal verb. When used as a modal, it expresses necessity or obligation, often in negative or interrogative sentences.

Need शब्द कभी main verb और कभी modal verb की तरह प्रयोग होता है। जब इसे modal verb की तरह प्रयोग करते हैं, तो यह आवश्यकता या बाध्यता (necessity/obligation) को दर्शाता है, खासकर negative और interrogative वाक्यों में।

·       Need का अर्थ होता है -कि आवश्यकता होना या पड़ना।

Need का प्रयोग मुख्य क्रिया (main Verb) तथा सहायक क्रिया के रूप में होता है।

1. Need का प्रयोग Main Verb के रूप में require( आवश्यकता होना) के अर्थ में प्रयोग किया जाता है। इस स्थिती में इसके साथ s/ es/ed लेकर यह अपना रूप बदलता रहता है। Main Verb के रूप में to Infinitive भी लेता है।

                        i.        मुझे कुछ पैसे कि आवश्यकता है।              
I need some money.

                      ii.        उसे हमारी मदद कि आवश्यकता है।         
She needs our help.

                    iii.        उसे वहां जानें के लिए आपकी अनुमति की जरूरत थी।
 S/He needed your permission to go  there.

                    iv.        आपको उससे बात करने की जरूरत थी।
You needed to talk to him.

                       v.        आपको उनसे बात करने की आवश्यकता है।
You need to talk to him.

                    vi.        उसे मेरी मदद की जरूरत है।                   
S/he needs my help.

                  vii.        उसे तुम्हारी मदद कि आवश्यकता नहीं है।
S/he does not need your help.

2. Need का प्रयोग Continuous Tense में नही होता है।

I am needing some medicine immediately. (X)

Use 'need' at the place of ' am needing'.

3. Need का प्रयोग जब Main Verb के रूप में होता है, तब इसके साथ Interrogative तथा Negative Sentences बनाने के लिए do/does/ did का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

·       क्या मुझे उसके समर्थन की जरूरत/ आवश्यकता है?
Do I need his/her support?

·       क्या उसे एक कलम कि आवश्यकता है?
Does s/he need a pen?

·       क्या उसे यहां ठहरने कि जरूरत थी?
Did s/he need to stay here?

Need का प्रयोग Auxiliary Verb (Helping Verb) के रूप में :- 

1. Need का प्रयोग Auxiliary Verb के रूप में प्रायः Negative या Interrogative Sentences में होता है, need not का contracted form needn't होता है।

Ø उसे इसे करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है।
She needn't do it.
( She does not need to do it.)

Ø तुम्हे वहां जानें कि आवश्यकता नहीं है.
You need not go there.

Ø क्या उसे एक कलम खरीदने की जरूरत है?
Need he buy a 🖋 pen?

Ø क्या उसे अपने बॉस से मिलने कि आवश्यकता है?
Need she meet her boss?

Ø किसे मेरी मदद कि आवश्यकता है?
Who needs my help?

 

Need as a Modal Verb

• Need + base verb (without “to”)
• No “-s” in third person singular (He need not go, not He needs not go)
• Used mainly in negative and question sentences

Examples:

Ø  तुम्हें चिंता करने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। You need not worry.

Ø  क्या मुझे और कुछ कहना ज़रूरी है? Need I say more?

Ø  उसे आज आने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। He need not come today.

Difference Between Need as Main Verb vs Modal Verb

Common Structures

• Need not + base verb → “No necessity”
• You need not wait. (तुम्हें इंतज़ार करने की ज़रूरत नहीं है।)
• Need + subject + base verb? → “Is it necessary?”
• Need we leave now? (क्या हमें अभी निकलना ज़रूरी है?)
