3. Interchange of Affirmative Sentence and Negative Sentences

Rule: 1. विलोम शब्दों से पूर्व not लगाकर Affirmative Sentences , Negative Sentences बन जाते हैं। जैसे -

                             Affirmative: He is fat.

Negative: He is not thin.

Affirmative: He loves drinking.

Negative: He doesn't hate drinking.

Affirmative: My shirt is loose.

Negative: My shirt is not tight.

Rule: 2. Degrees of Comparison को बदलकर यदि Comparative Degree का वास Affirmative (स्वीकारात्मक) है तो Negative (निषेधात्मक) बनाने के लिए Positive Degree में not का प्रयोग करते हैं। जैसे-

Affirmative: Ram is wiser than Mohan.
Negative: Mohan is not so wise as Ram.

इसी प्रकार यदि Positive Degree का वाक्य Affirmative है तो Negative बनाने के लिए Comparative Degree में not का प्रयोग करते हैं। जैसे-

Affirmative: Your brother is as wise as you.

Negative: You are not wiser than your brother.

Rule 3.  जिन वाक्यों में alone या only शब्द आये हों तो उन्हें हटाकर वाक्य के प्रारम्भ में None but ले आते हैं। जैसे –

Only a fool could have done it.

None but a fool could have done it.

1.            Affirmative: Sohan alone got the prize.

Negative: None but Sohan got the prize.

2.            Affirmative: - Sohan alone got the prize.

Negative: None but Sohan got the prize.

3.            Affirmative: Only a fool could have done it.

Negative: None but a fool could have done it.

4.            Affirmative:  Only Ram passed in English.

Negative:  None but Ram passed in English.

5.            Affirmative: Only good girls got good marks.

Negative:  None but good girls got good marks.

6.            Affirmative: Only a rich man can buy this building.

Negative: none but a rich man can buy this building.

7.            Affirmative: Only a little child would talk like this.

8.            Negative:  None but a little child would talk like this.

Rule 4:  'too' को so.... that....cannot या could not में बदल कर। जैसे-

Affirmative: He is too weak to run.

Negative: He is so weak that he cannot run.

Affirmative: Her love has been too deep to be forgotten.

Negative: Her love has been so deep that it cannot be forgotten.

Affirmative: He is too weak to run.

Negative: He is so weak that he cannot run.

Affirmative: Her love has been too deep to be forgotten.

Negative: Her love has been so deep that it cannot be forgotten.

Rule: 5.  As soon as वाले वाक्य का Negative बनाने पर as soon as के स्थान पर No sooner लगाइये और इसके बाद Affirmative Sentence के Verb को Interrogative Sentence का रूप दीजिए। (अर्थात् Helping Verb + Subject + Main Verb) और तब दोनों Clauses के बीच में than का प्रयोग कीजिये। वाक्य के अन्त में प्रश्नवाचक चिह्न नहीं लगाइये। देखिये निम्न वाक्य में 'I saw'  के स्थान पर 'did I see than हो गया है।

Affirmative: As soon as I saw the tiger, I ran away.

Negative: No sooner did I see the tiger than I ran away.

As soon as ----- No sooner

First clause  ----- change in to interrogative

Than + second clause.

1.   As soon as I saw the tiger, I ran away.

2.   As soon as he saw us, he ran away.

3.   No sooner did he see us than he ran away.

4.   As soon as he came, it began to rain.

5.   No sooner did he come, it began to rain.

6.   As soon as the clock struck ten, we went to sleep.

7.   As soon as we came out, it started raining.

Rule 6. did not fail' का प्रयोग करके भी Affirmative Sentence को Negative में बदलते हैं। जैसे -

I did not fail to see the Red Fort last year.
