PARA : 21.  'How much is this one?' he asked, panting out the words, ‘ten sen.' यह एक  कितने का है?'  हांफते हुए उसने पूछा, 'दस सेन।' 'Well,' said the old woman, 'ठीक है,' बूढ़ी औरत ने कहा,  since you're just a lad, I'll let you have it for .चूंकि तुम अभी एक बालक हो, मैं तुम्हारे लिए इसे दे दूंगी

PARA : 23.  'In that case,' said Seibei urgently, 'ऐसी बात है तो', सेबे ने आतुरता से कहा, 'please hold it for me, won't you?''इसे मेरे लिए रख लें, क्या आप रखेंगी?  I'll be right back with the money. मैं पैसे लेकर अभी आता हूँ।

PARA :  24.  He dashed home and in no time at all was back at the stall वह दौड़कर घर गया तथा बिना समय गंवाए स्टाल पर लौट आया।. He bought the gourd and took it home. उसने तुम्बा खरीदा तथा उसे घर ले गया।

PARA : 25. From that time on, he was never separated from his new goard उस समय से वह अपने नए तुम्बे से कभी भी अलग नहीं होता था।. He even took it along to school and used to polish it under his desk in class-time वह उसे अपने साथ स्कूल भी ले जाता था तथा पढ़ाई के वक्त भी अपनी डेस्क के नीचे इसकी पालिश करता रहता था।. it was not long before he was caught at this by one of the teachers कुछ समय बाद उसे ऐसा करते हुए एक शिक्षक ने पकड़ लिया,, who was particularly incensed जो प्रमुखतया इसलिए क्रोधित हुआ because it happened to take place in an ethics class. क्योंकि यह घटना नीतिशास्त्र की कक्षा में हुई थी।

 PARA : 26. The teacher came from another part of Japan अध्यापक जापान के किसी अन्य भाग से आया था and found it most offensive that children should indulge in such effeminate pastimes as collecting gourds तथा बच्चों द्वारा तुम्बे इकट्ठे करने जैसे पौरुषहीन मनोरंजन को वह घृणास्पद मानता था।. He never minded having his students sing Naniwabushi ballads, however, raucously. उसे अपने विद्यार्थियों द्वारा नानीबाबुशी गीत गाने पर कोई ऐतराज नहीं था चाहे वे कर्कश स्वर में हीं हों। Now, when he found Seibei silently polishing his gourd, अब, जब उसने सिवेई को चुपचाप अपने तुम्बे को पॉलिश करते देखा, his voice trembled with fury.  तो उसकी आवाज क्रोधवश काँपने लगी। 

PARA : 27 . You're an idiot!' he shouted. 'तुम मूर्ख हो!' वह चीखा। "There's absolutely no future for a boy like you.''तुम जैसे लड़के का बिलकुल कोई भविष्य नहीं है। Then and there he confiscated the gourd on which Seibei had spent so many long hours of work फिर उसने उस तुम्बे को जब्त कर लिया जिस पर सिवेई ने कई घंटे काम किया था।. Seibei stared straight ahead and did not cry.  सिवेई  सीधा देखता रहा तथा रोया नहीं

 

PARA : 28. When he got home, Seibei's face was pale जब सिवेई घर पहुँचा तो उसका चेहरा पीला पड़ गया था।. Without a word, he put his feet on the warmer बिना कुछ कहे उसने अपने पाँव अंगीठी पर रख दिए and sat looking blankly at the wall. तथा भाव-शून्य होकर दीवार को देखता रहा।

PARA : 29.  After a while, the teacher arrived कुछ समय पश्चात् अध्यापक आया।. As Seibei's father was not yet home from the carpenter's shop where he worked, क्योंकि सिवेई का पिता बढ़ई की दुकान से जहाँ वह काम करता था, अभी लौटा नहीं था the teacher directed his attack on Seibei's mother.  तो अध्यापक ने सिवेई की माँ पर अपना आकमण साधा।

PARA : 30 . This sort of thing is the responsibility of the family,' he said in a stem voice. "इस तरह का कार्य परिवार की ज़िम्मेदारी होती है, उसने कड़ी आवाज में कहा। 'It is the duty of you parents to see that such things don't happen''यह देखना तुम माता-पिता का कर्तव्य है कि इस तरह की बातें न हों।'. In an agony of embarrassment लज्जा की पीड़ा में, Seibei's mother muttered some apology. सिवेई की माँ ने क्षमा याचना की। 

PARA : 31 Meanwhile इसी बीच,, Seibei was trying to make himself as inconspicuous as possible in the corner. सिवेई एक कोने में जितना सम्भव था, छुपने की / अप्रकट होने की कोशिश कर रहा था। Terrified, he glanced up at his vindictive teacher and at the wall directly behind, where a whole row of fully-prepared gourds was hanging.  उसने भयभीत होकर अपने प्रतिशोधी अध्यापक की तरफ और पीछे वाली दीवार की तरफ देखा जहाँ पूरी तरह से तैयार किए हुए तुम्बे एक पंक्ति में लटक रहे थे। What would happenif the teacher caught sight of them? क्या होगा अगर अध्यापक की नजर उन पर पड़ गई?

PARA : 32 Trembling inside भीतर से काँपते हुए, he waited for the worst वह बहुत बुरा होने का इंतजार कर रहा था, but at length the man exhausted his rhetoric and stamped angrily out of the house. , लेकिन थोड़ी देर में उस आदमी ने अपनी बात समाप्त की तथा क्रोध के साथ पैर पटकता हुआ घर से बाहर चला गया। Seibei heaved a sigh of relief. सिवेई ने चैन की साँस ली।

PARA : 33.  Seibei's mother was sobbing softly. 'सेबे की माँ धीरे-धीरे सिसक रही थी। In a querulous whine, she began to scold him, and चिड़चिड़ाते लहजे में वह उसे डॉटने लगी तथा in the midst of this, Seibei's father returned from his shop इसी दौरान सेबे का पिता अपनी दुकान से लौट आया।. As soon as he heard what had happened जैसे ही उसने सुना कि क्या हुआ था, he grabbed his son by the collar and gave him a sound beating. , उसने अपने बेटे को कालर से पकड़ लिया तथा उसकी बुरी तरह से पिटाई कर दी। 'You're no good!' he bawled at him. "तुम किसी काम के नहीं हो।" वह उस पर चीखा 'You'll never get anywhere in the world, the way you're carrying on. "जिस रास्ते पर तुम चल रहे हो उससे तुम दुनिया में कहीं नही पहुँच पाओगे। I've a good mind to throw you out into the street where you belong!' मेरा मन करता है कि मैं तुम्हें उठाकर गली हमें फेंक दूँ जहाँ तुम्हारी सही जगह है।" The gourds on the wall caught his attention उसका ध्यान दीवार पर टंगे तुम्बों पर गया।. Without a word, he fetched his hammer and systematically smashed them to pieces, one after the other वह बिना कुछ बोले अपना हथौड़ा लाया तथा क्रमबद्ध ढंग से एक-एक करके उन सबको तोड़कर चूर-चूर कर दिया।. Seibei turned pale but said nothing. सेबे पीला पड़ गया किन्तु वह कुछ नहीं बोला।

 

PARA : 34 The next day, the teacher gave Seibei's confiscated gourd to an old porter who worked in the school अगले दिन सेवे का जब्त किया हुआ तुम्बा अध्यापक ने एक बूढ़े चपरासी को दे दिया जो स्कूल में काम करता था।. 'Here, take this,' he said, as if handing over some unclean object. "यह लो," उसने कहा जैसे कि वह कोई अपवित्र वस्तु पकड़ा रहा हो। The porter took the gourd home with him and hung it on the wall of his small, sooty room. चपरासी तुम्बे को घर ले गया तथा अपने धुएँ से भरे छोटे से कमरे में लटका दिया।

PARA : 35. About two months later, the porter, finding himself even more hard-pressed for money than usual, लगभग दो महीने बाद जब चपरासी को सामान्यतः से ज्यादा धन की जरूरत हुई decided to take the gourd to a local curio-shop to see if he could get a few coppers for it उसने तुम्बे को एक कलाकृति की चस्तुओं की दुकान पर ले जाकर यह देखने की बात सोची कि क्या उसके बदले कुछ ताँबे के सिक्के मिल जाएँगे।. The curio-dealer examined the gourd carefully कलाकृतियों के दुकानदार ने तुम्बे को ध्यानपूर्वक परखा,, then assuming an uninterested tone handed it back to the porter फिर उदासीनता दिखाते हुए उसे चपरासी को लौटाते हुए, saying, 'I might give you five yen for it.', कहा, "मैं तुम्हें इसके पाँच येन दे सकता हूँ।"

PARA : 36. The porter was astounded चपरासी आश्चर्यचकित था, but being quite an astute old man, replied coolly लेकिन बहुत  वृद्ध व्यक्ति होने के कारण, उसने शांति से जवाब दिया, 'I certainly wouldn't part with it for that. इतने में तो इसे कभी नहीं दूँगा।" ' The dealer immediately raised his offer to, “ten yen, दुकानदार ने तुरन्त उसका मूल्य बढ़ाकर दस येन कर दिया but the porter was still adamant., लेकिन चपरासी अब भी अड़ा हुआ था। 

PARA : 37 In the end the curio-dealer had to pay fifty yen for the gourd अंततः कलाकृति विक्रेता को तुम्बे के पचास येन देने पड़े।. The porter left the shop, delighted at his luck चपरासी अपने भाग्य पर हर्षित होता हुआ दुकान से आया।. It wasn't often that the teachers gave one a free gift equivalent to a year's wages! प्रायः ऐसा नहीं होता कि कोई अध्यापक किसी को उसके एक वर्ष के वेतन के बराबर उपहार देता हो। He was so clever as not to mention the matter to anyone, वह इतना चालाक था कि उसने इसका जिक्र किसी के सामने नहीं किया। and neither Seibei nor the teacher ever heard what had happened to the gourd. और न सेवे को तथा न ही अध्यापक को पता चल पाया कि उस तुम्बे का क्या हुआ। Yes, the porter was clever, but he was not clever enough हाँ, चपरासी चालाक था, लेकिन ज्यादा चालाक नहीं था।: little did he imagine उसने थोड़ी सी भी कल्पना नहीं की थी that this same gourd would be passed on by the curio-dealer to a wealthy collector in the district for 600 yen.कि उस तुम्बे को कलाकृतियों का विक्रेता इलाके के एक बड़े संग्रहकर्ता को 600 येन में दे देगा |

 PARA : 38 . Seibei is now engrossed in his pictures सिवेई अब अपने चित्रों में मग्न है।. He no longer feels any bitterness either towards the teacher, or towards his father उसके मन में न तो अपने अध्यापक के प्रति कटुता है, न ही पिता के प्रति who smashed all his precious gourds to pieces.जिसने उसके कीमती तुम्बों को तोड़कर टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर दिया था।

PARA : 39.  Yet gradually his father has begun to scold him for painting pictures. फिर भी धीरे-धीरे उसके पिता ने उसको चित्र रंगने पर डाँटना आरम्भ कर दिया है
