1. Mother's announcement shook me. मां की घोषणा ने मुझे डरा/कंपा दिया "Nanukaka is coming," she said. उसने कहा," नानू काका आ रहे हैं".

2. "Oh, my God! " I said." हाय भगवान!", मैंनेकहा" Couldn't we send him a wire saying we are leaving that I am transferred or something?"यह कह  कर हम लोग उन्हें तार नहीं भेज सकते हैं कि हम लोग इसे छोड़ रहे हैं , मेरा तबादला हो गया है या कुछ भी"

 "No, dear," Mother said "नहीं प्यारे ", मां ने कहा. " He must be already on the train. Besides," वे गाड़ी पर चढ़ चुके होंगे इसके अलावा " उसने पुनः आश्वस्त करते हुए कहाshe added reassuringly, "He says he cannot stay here for more than two or three days.""वहां 2 या 3 दिनों से अधिक नहीं रुक सकते ।"

8. Mother has always been very loyal to her side of the family, मां अपने परिवार के प्रति हमेशा विनीत रही है and after all, और आखिरकार Nanukaka is her brother  नानू काका उनके भाई हैं. 9. I was waiting on the platform when the train came inजब गाड़ी आई तब मैं स्टेशन पर प्रतीक्षा कर रहा था।. Nannukaka stood in the doorway of  a second class carriage; नानू काका एक द्वितीय श्रेणी के डिब्बे के दरवाजे पर खड़ा हो गए a triking figure, white haired, with an impressive moustache एक प्रभावशाली कद काठी , सफेद बाल ,एक आकर्षक मूंछ के साथ. He still wears the old fashioned knee-length black coat and red silk pugree of the Deccani brahmin. and draped a white angocha round his shoulders.

वे आज भी पुरानी शैली की घुटनों तक के कोट पहनते हैं और दक्कन ब्राह्मण वाला लाल रेशमी पगड़ी और अपने कंधों की चारों तरफ लिपटा एक सफेद गमछा।

10. As I went up, he handed me a basket.जैसे ही मैं आगे बढ़ा उन्होंने मुझे एक टोकरी दिया। "take this out, quick," he wispered." इसे बाहर ले जाओ , जल्दी" वे फुसफुसाए। "I'll join you outside the station."मैं तुमसे स्टेशन के बाहर मिलूंगा ।

" Had to travel second on a third class ticket! But it was all arranged quite amicablyतृतीय श्रेणी की टिकट पर द्वितीय श्रेणी में यात्रा करनी पड़ी लेकिन यह सभी व्यवस्था अच्छी तरह हो गई. such a nice young man, the TC कितना अच्छा आदमी है या टिकट संग्राहक. You can saw how he even came right out with me,so that there should be no troubleदेखा तुमने देखा इस तरह वह मेरे साथ बाहर तक आया ताकि कोई दिक्कत ना हो. The kitten, of course, travelled free. how is it ? यह बिल्ली, बेशक,मुफ्त में यात्रा की। वह कैसे ?" 

15. "Very quite, " I said "बहु शांति से ",मैं कहा. Perhaps it is dead, I thought hopefully. शायद वह मर चुकी है ,मैंने आशा के साथ सोचा।

16. We got into the car हम लोग कार में बैठे, and even before I had changed into second gear और मैं अभी तक दूसरा गेयर बदला भी नहीं था, Nanukaka asked: नानू काका पूछे " When have you arranged for the minister to see me? तुमन मंत्री से  मेरे मिलने की व्यवस्था कब की है?Can't stay here for more than two days - three at the most.मैं 2 दिन से अधिक यहां नहीं रुक सकता अधिक से अधिक 3 दिन"

18. " Oh !" Nanukaka said नानू काका ने कहा. ' I had rather hoped....oh, I see मैंने आशा की थी..ओह! मैं देखता हूं ।. Well, never mind. ठीक है कोई बात नहीं" He took a pinch of snuff, उन्होंने एक चुटकी सुंघनी लिया brushed his fingers delicataly on his angocha,अपने अंगुलियों को अच्छी तरह से अंगोछा से रगड़ा and sat back, और पीछे लुढ़क गए closing his eyes and puckering his eyebrows as throught.अपनी आंखों को बंद कर एवं भौहों को नचाते हुए मानो, वे किसी गहरे विचार में खोए हो। उन्होंने बिल्कुल ढक्कन तरीके से बहुत बार अपनी चुटकी भी बजाया, दया भाव से।

19. Mother was waiting on the door steps, her face wreathed in smilesमां दरवाजे पर प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे उसके चेहरे पर मुस्कान खिल उठी. She went into squeals of delight over the kitten and made a lot of fuss over Nanukakaवह बिल्ली को देखकर बहुत खुश हुई और नानू काका से बहुत कुछ बातें की. I also found that she had installed him in my bedroom मैंने यह भी पाया कि उसने नानू काका की व्यवस्था मेरे सोने के कमरे में कर दिया था, so that I had to put a charpoy for myself in the back verandah.इसलिए मुझे अपने लिए पिछले बरामदा में खटिया रखना पड़ा।

20. At mother's insistence मां के कहने पर, I had taken to day's leave from the officeमैंने कार्यालय से 2 दिनों की छुट्टी ले ली थी, and in the afternoon, I drove Nanukaka to the north Block और दोपहर में मैं नानू काका को नॉर्थ ब्लॉक ले गया. He went in to see the Minister वह मंत्री से मिलने अंदर गए and I waited in the car parkऔर मैं बाहर कार पार्किंग में प्रतीक्षा करने लगा. It was two hours before he returned mumbling colourful Marathi swearwords वह कुछ मराठी सौगंध की बातें बड़बड़ा रहे थे. I didn't dare ask him what happenedमैंने उनसे यह पूछने की हिम्मत नहीं की कि क्या हुआ, and drove without saying a word. और बगैर कुछ कहे गाड़ी चलाने लगा He cooled down in a little while, though, and said: वह कुछ देर शांत नीचे बैठे रहे और तब बोले।

21."Two hours, I spent, 2 घंटे मैंन बिताया being transferred from one chaparasi to another,एक चपरासी से दूसरे चपरासी तक भेजा जाता रहा tramping through the corridors दरवाजे दरवाजे दस्तक देते, and in the end और अंत में, succeeded in getting a Deputy-Secretary एक डिप्टी सेक्रेटरी तक पहुंचने में सफलता मिलीto give me an appointment- three days from now! आज से 3 दिन बाद समय दिया Shameful! Shameful! शर्म की बात है! शर्म की बात है! And there was another series of Marathi expletives और फिर दूसरी मराठी भाषा के शब्दों की बात छोड़ कर. In a linguistic emergency my uncle always turned to his mother tongue. जब जल्दी में तेजी से बोलना होता है तो अंकल मराठी भाषा का प्रयोग करते है।

22. A garnish yellow sports car flashed past us एक पीले रंग की सुंदर  स्पोर्ट्स कार हमसे आगे निकली blaring its horn in an uninterrupted blast,उसके 📯 हॉर्न को न रूकने वाला लगातार बम धमाके की तरह, and the young man at the wheel और ड्राइविंग सीट पर बैठा व्यक्ति waved his hand at me.मेरी तरफ अपना हाथ लहराया।

23. "What a rude man! कैसा क्रूर/ अशिष्ट व्यक्ति था Who was that? कौन था?" Nunukaka asked. नानुकाका ने पूछा.

24. "Chap called Ratiram, works in the same Ministry as mine." लड़के का नाम रतीरम है, उसी मंत्रालय में काम करता है जिसमें मैं.

26. "There was some talk about his going as Trade Commissioner to Hajrat Barkat

"It takes pull. Ratiram is the

son of Sohanlal Ratiram, you know, the Party Boss in Delhi."

29. Nanukaka sat up with a jerk नानूकाका एक झटके से बैठ गये ।. "What was that?" "वह क्या था ?" what did you say? क्या कहा तुमने ? Sohanlal Ratiram's son! How extraordinary! Well, well!" "सोहन लाल रतीराम का बेटा ! क्या बात है ! अच्छा, अच्छा !"  he leaned back in his seat and stared at me for a long time वे सीट पर अपना पीठ टिकाकर बैठे गये और बड़ी देर तक मुझे घूरते रहे ।. "Now let me see अब मुझे देखने दो ।. You've got a close-collar Jodhpur coat, haven't you? तुम्हारे पास एक बँधे कॉलर का जोधपुरी कोट है न ? Good! And can you tie a turban? No? अच्छा! और क्या तुम तरबन बाँधसकते हो ? नहीं ? Well, I'll have to put it on you, although I am no expert अच्छा, मुझे उसे तुम पर बाँधना है, यद्यपि मैं सिद्धहस्त नहीं हूँ।. This tie-and-collar business is no good these days यह टाई और कॉलर का रोजगार आजकल अच्छा नहीं है।. Let's go home हमलोग घर चलें।.
