Get Used to :
We use “get used to “to show than one will be /could
be familiar with weather or situation. ( आपको आदत पड़ गयी/ पड़ जायेगी ).
1. I'm getting used to the new
job.
मैं नई नौकरी की आदत डाल रहा हूँ।
2. She'll get used to the
weather here.
वह यहाँ के मौसम की आदत डाल लेगी।
3. We need to get used to the
new system.
हमें नए सिस्टम की आदत डालनी होगी।
4. He's getting used to
driving on the left side.
वह बाईं ओर से ड्राइविंग की आदत डाल रहा है।
5. It takes time to get used

Structure:
(A). S + to
be + get used to + situation-----
(B). S + to have + got used to +
situation-----
For example:
Don’t worry. You
will soon get used to the heat and humidity of Bihar.
Now I have got
used to the cold of J&K.
Now six month
later she has got used to the routine.
I have got used to
this schedule.
I will have to get
used to it.
I am finding this
new job hard but I am sure I will get used to it soon.
It took my mother
years to get used to living in London after moving from Pakistan.
I am getting used
to noise now. I found it really stressful when I first moved in.
“Be used to” and
“get used to” are followed by a noun, pronoun or the ing form of a verb,
and can be used about past, present and future.
I used to vs I am used to
Look at the
following two sentences
I used to drink green tea.
I am used drinking green tea.
What’s the
difference between two sentences
In the first
sentence., “ I used to green tea.” means that in the past I drank green tea,
but now I don’t.
‘Used to’
describes an action that did happen, now doesn’t happen now.
Some other
examples:
1.
When I was young, I used to play with dolls. But I don’t anymore.
Before I passed my
driving test, I used to cycle everywhere.
Now in the second
sentence.
“ I am used to
drinking green tea.” means that at first drinking green tea was strange
and unusual, but now it has become familiar.
Be used to
describes that action that was , perhaps difficult and is now easy. As “I am
accustomed to green tea” has same meaning.
Some other
examples.
I’m getting used
to strange smell in the factory.
It took me a
while, but I’m finally used to using this new software.
I’ll never get
used to the heat in India.
READING SECTION (LET’S
SUM UP)
1. When I reached New York it was snowing. I am not used
to such weather. I pulled out my woollens and wore them layer upon layer
till I felt worm and cozy. But I had a new problem. I was unable to move
comfortably as I am not used to wearing heavy woollens. Seven years passed
since then. Now I have got used to the cold. I don’t need to pile woollen on my
body. I manage with a thick jacket.
2. She was taken aback. She was to finish her dinner at
6:30 which was served in the large mess. She was not used to eating her dinner
so early.
Surely, she would not be hungry at that time. That was
her teatime. But she decided to follow the regimen of the ashram. Now six
months later she has got used to the routine. She does not miss her evening tea
and snacks either.
3. Lata’s school starts very early. She leaves home a t
6:30 in the morning. She does not mind it.
Friend: Doesn’t getting up so early bother you sometimes?
Lata: Not really. I have got used to this schedule. I
have been doing it for last fifteen years.
4. Shyam is new to the hostel. He likes to bathe
every day. And wear clean clothes he doesn’t like to share his clothes with
anyone.
Friend: Hey Shyam why are
you worried about the laundry not arriving?
Why
don’t just take my shirt and wear it for today?
Shyam: I am afraid, I
don’t like the idea. I am not used to sharing clothes with anyone.
5. Lata was prescribed the medicines by her
doctor. She had never taken so many medicines before. So she would often forget
them.
Doctor: I find you do not
take medicines regularly.
Lata: I am sorry,
Doctor. I forget. You see I am not used to so
many medicines.
Don’t worry, I think, I will get used to it in a week or two.
6. Mr. Gill has been his own master for so many years. He
has worked on his own terms and has had no boss in the real sense of the term.
Now he has joined a company.
Manager: Well, Mr. Gill you will be part of my team? Is
that fine with you.
Mr. Gill: Not exactly, I am not used to taking orders
from anyone. But I guess, I will got used to it.
7. Lata is happy in the Old People’s Home. It was
difficult in the beginning but now she has got adjusted to the people around
him.

Lata, do you like it here in the home?
Lata:
Well, you can say that I have got used to it.
8. When I started to work here I needed a lot help, but
now I am used to doing all the work on my own.
He used to read several books a month, but he doesn’t
have time any more.
